Groundbreaking at The Summit Marks New Era for BSA
Scouts, volunteers, and BSA professionals joined with area officials in West Virginia last week at the groundbreaking ceremony for our newest high-adventure base and future home of the national jamboree—The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. Dates for the 2013 Jamboree—July 15-24—also were announced at the ceremony. New Training Will Be Offered for Venturing Leaders
The Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) is being replaced by a new course entitled Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, or ILSC. The purpose of ILSC, which is the first course in the series of Venturing leadership training, is to teach crew members with leadership positions what their new responsibility is and how to most effectively reach success in that role. Completion of the course is a prerequisite for participation in more advanced leadership programs. The Volunteer Development Team expects this course to be released to the Scouting community within 30 days. Watch the training page on scouting.org for updates.
Watch Virtual Top Hands, Leave a Comment, Win Prizes!
A quick, interactive substitute for our annual Top Hands meeting—called Virtual Top Hands—was recently sent to all employees. Featuring a series of brief videos recorded by our top leaders, the presentation also includes a comments function that allows you to interact with the Chief’s office and post questions. Several of you have already participated, but we’d like to hear from more of you!
Beginning today, we will send a special token of our appreciation to the first 25 people who leave a comment on the site. To sweeten the pot even more, one of those 25 will be randomly chosen to receive a special gift from the National Council. To participate, visit the Virtual Top Hands site and leave your comment today! (If you experience difficulty using the comments section, please send your comment to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll post it for you.)
